Getting to know H3OHM
What is H3OHM?
H3OHM is an educational platform exploring the relationships between chemistry, biology, consciousness, and human experience. Through articles, research, books, and conversation, we ask what it means for the many parts of a living system to work together. Our guiding phrase is “The Science of Human Coherence.”
What does the name H3OHM mean?
Our name brings together H₃O⁺, the chemical formula for hydronium; the ohm, a unit of electrical resistance; and Om, a sacred sound associated with contemplative traditions. These references bring our interests in chemistry, electrical relationships, and the inner life together within our name.
Read the story behind our nameWhat do you mean by human coherence?
By human coherence, we mean the capacity of our different systems and experiences to work together while retaining their distinct functions. We explore that idea through physiology and through the relationships among our thoughts, emotions, actions, and values. It is a way of asking how the parts of a human life contribute to a living whole.
Where should I begin?
Begin with the article that speaks to your curiosity. Our introduction to coherence offers a starting point for understanding H3OHM’s central theme. The story behind our name introduces our perspective, and Inner Alchemy offers a longer exploration of the questions behind the work.

Why explore science and consciousness together?
The body is also where we experience being alive. H3OHM makes room for questions about both its physical processes and our experience of meaning, awareness, and connection. We bring scientific inquiry into conversation with lived experience, with curiosity about what each can help us understand.
Is everything H3OHM explores scientifically established?
Our work includes established physiology, emerging hypotheses, and philosophical reflection. Each calls for a different kind of consideration. A proposed connection is an invitation to investigate, and its strength depends on the evidence behind it. We encourage readers to examine sources, ask questions, and remain open to revision as understanding grows.
Where can I find the research behind the ideas?
Explore the Publications section of our website and the references accompanying our articles and Inner Alchemy. These provide places to investigate particular claims and their context. If you are looking for a source for a specific statement, email us with the passage or topic so we can help you locate it.

H3OHM shares educational material. Our articles, book, and conversations do not provide an individual diagnosis or treatment plan. For questions about your own health, medications, or whether a practice is appropriate for you, consult a qualified healthcare professional who knows your medical history.
Inner Alchemy
What is Inner Alchemy about?
Inner Alchemy: The Fusion of Science and Soul explores Lee Edgar’s questions about the body and the experience of healing. It combines personal narrative with discussions of chemistry, breathing, carbon dioxide, and metabolism, alongside reflection on consciousness and meaning. The book introduces his perspective and invites readers to examine the ideas and their supporting sources.
Who wrote Inner Alchemy?
Inner Alchemy was written by Alfred Lee Edgar, known as Lee. His personal experiences and independent inquiry shape the book’s exploration of physiology and the inner life. Through the book, readers can encounter both the questions that motivated his work and the explanations he proposes.
Do I need a science background to read it?
You can begin with curiosity. The book introduces its central ideas through narrative and explanations, with a glossary and deeper scientific material for readers who want to explore further. Take your time with unfamiliar terms and return to the references as your questions develop.
